1. Tell us a little about Dr. Squatch and what motivated you to get into the soap business.
AJ: Moving to Colorado from Indiana after college opened my eyes to a whole new world and community of living naturally. I started to pay attention to ingredients in what I ate and what I put on my body. I always wanted to start my own business and it worked out perfectly that my old childhood friend at the time was looking for a partner in selling these natural soap bars he created. One shower later I was in love with the feeling, smell, and lather those bars gave me. So we linked up and have been showing people the power of our manly, natural soap ever since.
2. In your opinion, why should guys switch from using regular bar soaps to Dr. Squatch's bar soaps?
AJ: Like most guys, I used to go to the store and buy whichever soap product was the cheapest, but the truth is most commercial soap manufacturers remove the nourishing vegetable glycerin from their soap, so their “soap” is actually considered a detergent. Driven by profits, they do this so they can use the glycerin in other products such as lotions. Then they will add other synthetic chemicals to imitate the lather glycerin provides.
Our soap is made with natural ingredients that you can pronounce like Shea Butter and Hemp Oil, each serving the purpose of the betterment of your skin.
3. Can you tell us a little about your soapmaking process?
AJ: We, at Dr. Squatch Soap Co., make our bars the old fashioned way. Using what’s called the cold process method. We pour, cut and cure our bars over a span of at least 3 weeks. This process retains the good stuff like glycerin, coconut and olive oil so your skin is moisturized naturally through simple ingredients from mother earth.
4. If you could just give one grooming tip to our readers, what would it be?
AJ: Make your shower experience a time that rejuvenates your skin and your mind. The skin is the largest organ of your body, and extremely porous. Pay attention to the ingredients you put on your body. You shouldn’t need a chemistry degree to understand what’s in your soap.
